How Magic Eraser works
Most photo editors make you draw a careful selection around an object before you can remove it. PhotoJam’s Magic Eraser skips that: a single point placed on the object is enough for it to work out the object’s outline on its own, using an AI segmentation model (Segment Anything) that runs entirely inside your browser.
Once it has the object isolated, PhotoJam removes it and rebuilds that area of the photo from the surrounding pixels — the same reconstruction technique behind the content-aware fill and spot healing brush tools, applied automatically to whatever the click selected.
It works best on objects sitting over a reasonably consistent background — a person on a plain wall, a sign against the sky, litter on grass. Busy, highly detailed backgrounds are harder for any automatic tool to reconstruct convincingly, PhotoJam included; the brush and clone stamp tools are there for touch-ups afterward.
Nothing about the photo leaves your device to make this work: the segmentation model downloads once, like any other page asset, and every click runs locally from then on.

Do I have to select the object manually first?

Can I undo it if the result isn’t clean?
Yes, one click of Undo removes the erased result and puts the object back exactly as it was.
